Finprostat is a medication used to treat hair loss in men. It is the active ingredient in the drug Propecia and is a type of antiandrogen. It works by inhibiting the production of the hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which is thought to be the main cause of male pattern baldness.
Finasteride was first approved by the FDA in 1997 for the treatment of male pattern baldness. It is available in tablet form and is taken orally. The recommended dose is 1 mg per day.
Finasteride is generally well tolerated, with the most common side effects being decreased libido, erectile dysfunction and ejaculatory dysfunction. These side effects are usually temporary and resolve once the medication is stopped.
If you are considering taking finasteride for the treatment of hair loss, please speak to your doctor first.
